Infinity Ward and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released this fall for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and serves as the sixteenth installment in the highly popular Call of Duty series, while doubly serving as a reboot of the Modern Warfare series (check out our review here!). While this game brings many new and exciting features, one problem that has plagued Call of Duty players for years still remains – figuring out what weapons to pick and what attachments to equip with them. This can be a daunting task in this popular and long-running first-person shooter title, especially given the insane number of weaponry options and possible customizations. When considering the importance of leveling up and raising kill numbers in the game, finding the perfect weapon customization is critical in Call of Duty to give players a fighting chance to find an advantage against so many players heading into battle.
Luckily, we’ve got you covered. We have compiled a list of some of the best weapons in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, as well as some of the most effective customizations to maximize damage, mobility, and control. While every player may be looking for something unique and may alter their own customizations and suggestions, this guide is a great place to start for the player who is feeling a little lost and overwhelmed.
Below is a list of the Top 10 Weapons in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).
Due to its recent nerf, the 725 shotgun will kick off this list. The 725 was once deemed one of the strongest weapons in the game. Despite its most recent nerf, however, it is still not a bad choice for your arsenal. Pairing this weapon with another primary weapons via the overkill perk is still viable, and where this gun shines. This double barreled shotgun can be unlocked at Level 17. For attachments we recommend equipping the 725 with a Tempus Smooth Bore (Barrel), Sawed-Off Stock (Stock), Compensator (Muzzle), 1 mW Laser (Laser), and Sleight of Hand (Perk). You’ll be ready for any close quarters scenario.
At the number nine spot, is the M13. This assault rifle (AR) boast high rates of fire and minimum recoil levels thanks to its short stroke piston system. Players can unlock this AR at Level 39, and customize it to fit their needs and desires. For those looking to maximize mobility and power, we recommend equipping your M13 with a Tempus Cyclone (Barrel), No Stock (Stock), Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip), 60 Round Mags (Ammunition), and Fully Loaded (Perk).
Sitting in the number eight spot is a familiar weapon, the AK-47, an assault rifle (AR) that can be customized into the perfect weapon to fit any player’s needs. This AR can be unlocked at Level 53 as the last AR to be unlocked; and features high damage output, high recoil levels, and a controlled fire rate. While it’s not best for close-range attacks, the slow and steady rate of fire does make it ideal for long-range attacks. To maximize damage with recoil control and ammunition levels, we recommend equipping your AK-47 with Compensator (Muzzle), Skeleton Stock (Stock), Granulated Grip Tape (Rear Grip), 40 Round Mag (Ammunition), and Fully Loaded (Perk).
Now, in the number seven spot, is the AX-50, a bolt-action sniper rifle. This weapon is a great and effective choice for ranged attacks. Though it’s not unlocked until Level 37, it’s certainly worth the wait. In most cases, even just a single shot has the capability to take an enemy down. Plus, it’s a great option when it comes to mobility, making the AX-50 a fantastic choice for players who are hoping to take down enemies quickly and move onto other targets. To ensure the best results, selecting the best combination of attachments is key. We recommend equipping the Singuard Arms Pro (Barrel), Tac Laser (Laser), Singuard Arms Assassin (Stock), Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip), and Focus (Perk). This maintains a high damage output and Aim Down Sight Speed.
Next up, coming in at number six is the PKM, a fully automatic light machine gun (LMG). Unlocked at Level 1, it’s a great starter weapon due to its high ammunition capacity, making it a reliable weapon. Its high caliber rounds, rate of fire, and accuracy when shooting lend its strength as a great mid-range combat weapon. It also is a fantastic choice for more passive players, who aren’t looking to rush into battle. We recommend equipping your PKM with Monolithic Suppressor (Muzzle), 26.9″ Extended Barrel (Barrel), Viper Reflex Sight (Sight), Commando Foregrip (Underbarrel), and Stippled Grip Tape (Grip) for a weapon that can rapidly and accurately target players.
At the halfway point, we find a revamped weapon for this 2019 title. The AUG may be familiar to longtime Call of Duty fans, where the weapon was first introduced as a light machine gun (LMG) in Modern Warfare 2. However, for this new edition, the AUG is now a highly compact sub machine gun (SMG) that is ideal for close- to medium-range attacks. Unlocked early at Level 5, this weapon is the first SMG available to players. It’s a great starter weapon before moving on to more heavy-duty SMG’s, given its ease in controls. Beyond its accessibility, the weapon is still very powerful, especially with the right customizations. We recommend equipping your AUG with a 407mm Extended Barrel (Barrel), Monolithic Suppressor (Muzzle), FTAC Ultralight Hollow (Stock), Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip), 5.56 NATO 30-Round Mags (Ammunition) to maximize mobility and damage.
In the number four spot, we’ve got a weapon that may sound familiar to veteran Call of Duty players – the MP7. This submachine gun (SMG) was first seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and has been reincarnated in this new game to be unlocked at Level 54. It’s a small, yet powerful weapon, with a high rate of fire and low recoil levels. The MP7 also holds the title with the highest rate of fire for guns in its category. In other words, it’s a deadly weapon when dealing in close combat. We recommend equipping the MP7 with the FSS Strike (Barrel), 60 Round Mags (Ammunition), FORGE TAC Ultralight (Stock), Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip), and Commando Foregrip (Underbarrel) for players with an enemy objective who are looking to continuously move while fighting.
3. Kilo 141
And then there were three! Next up we have the Kilo 141, which is the first assault rifle (AR) available to players on Modern Warfare multiplayer. It’s fully automatic and possesses a comfortable design to improve handling and a steady fire rate that makes it a great alternative to other assault rifles in the game. We recommend equipping your Kilo 141 with Singuard Arms Whisper (Barrel), Singuard Arms Sniper Pro (Stock), G.I. Mini Reflex (Optic), Merc Foregrip (Underbarrel), and 50 Round Mags (Ammunition). This combination makes the Kilo 141 a great option for nearly all scenarios, due to the additional damage it provides and the maximum control it grants.
Holding a place in the number two spot is the MP5, a submachine gun (SMG) that’s a great starter weapon, especially for players who are still learning and unfamiliar with the game. Unlocked at Level 12, the MP5 is known for offering great accuracy and control, lending to its reputation as a great mid-range weapon. Additionally useful is the weapon’s effectiveness, even without a ton of attachments. However, for players looking to utilize this SMG more aggressively and maximize its weapons damage, we recommending equipping your MP5 with Monolithic Integral Suppressor (Barrel), FTAC Collapsible (Stock), Stippled Grip Tape (Rear Grip), 10mm Mags (Ammunition), and Commando Foregrip (Underbarrel).
Finally, coming in at the coveted number one spot is the M4A1, an assault rifle (AR) that’s perfect for nearly every situation. Argued by some as the best weapon in the entire game, the M4 offers a plethora of customization options and features to support your playthrough. Players can unlock this weapon at Level 6 for use in either an aggressive or stealth-style play. Despite being able to unlock the M4 at such a low level, you won’t want to sleep on this weapon. You won’t find another rifle that offers incredibly high rates of fire, as well as low recoil levels and high damage output. For most effective results, we recommend equipping the M4A1 with a Monolithic Suppressor (Muzzle), Corvus Custom Marksman (Barrel), 60 Round Mag (Ammunition), Commando Foregrip (Underbarrel), Fully Loaded (Perk).
While this list is a great starting point for players, it’s important to remember that everyone’s playthrough experience is unique. These customization suggestions can also be customized to fit your own needs. But hopefully, this short guide has provided some assistance and insight on some of the best weapons, and their possible customizations, in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).
