Headsets are one of the most important parts of gaming and many gamers prefer these over built-in speaker systems. There are so many different types of gaming headsets, from those specifically geared toward audiophiles to headsets that stand out for specific games. You can also get headsets with certain features like a heavy bass or surround sound audio. The right headset can make gaming a lot more enjoyable.

The Sennheiser Game One from EPOS headset definitely stands out from the crowd. It has earned the coveted “Amazon’s Choice” badge and is very popular among customers. This is a great headset to use for gaming. But, like with all gaming equipment, this headset has its pros and cons. Some key features that stand out are the comfort, microphone quality, and sound quality. But it does also have its downsides as well.

Top 10 Pros and Cons of the Sennheiser Game Ones

10. Pro: Comfort

Comfort is a hugely important feature as it allows you to get hours of gaming in without headaches, neck pain, etc. With the Sennheiser Game One, you are guaranteed this comfort for long gaming sessions. To start, this headset is lightweight. Whereas other headsets may weigh several pounds, the Sennheiser Game One only weighs 10.5 ounces. This is important for alleviating pressure on your head and preventing neck strain. The headband is cushioned as well, so you don’t need to deal with a hard piece of plastic bearing down on your head.

In addition, it has XXL plush velour ear pads to cushion your ears for extended periods of time. These large ear pads fit well with any ear size or shape. These velvet-like ear pads are also breathable, meaning you also won’t need to deal with excess heat or sweating.

9. Con: Price

This is definitely one of your higher end options for a gaming headset. In general, you should expect to pay between $50 and $100 for a good gaming headset, though you can find options for less than that. The Sennheiser Game One tends to run a little higher so, though the price can fluctuate, you will likely be paying over $150.

8. Pro: Build Quality

Another important feature of a good gaming headset is its build quality. You can get the best headset in the world but that won’t mean anything if it breaks just a few weeks after you get it. The build quality on the Sennheiser Game One is top notch, meaning that it will last you a long time.

The Sennheiser Game One is made from materials tested for durability and it has a sleek design. You won’t need to worry about this headset knocking around on things like you would with a bulkier headset. It also has a braided fabric cable which helps to protect the wiring inside. Non-braided cables tend to break easily so the fabric helps to keep the cable intact.

7. Con: Build is Made of Plastic

You are going to find a lot of gaming headsets made out of plastic and the Sennheiser Game One is no different. Unfortunately, though this is a common material to use, it can often be quite flimsy. Plastic can snap and, even without a lot of force at once, the structural integrity will wear down over time. With every bend, the plastic material becomes weaker and may eventually break.

Higher end headsets can be made of metal and wiring which give them more flexibility and long term durability. These are ideal since they can withstand more impact and general wear and tear.

6. Pro: Easy Mic Mute

Not every headset has a mic mute option, nor do the ones with mic mute options have easy to use functions. Having an easy mute option is important for both you and your team during high intensity games. You don’t want to run into a situation where you and your teammates can’t hear each other because there are too many voices at once.

The Sennheiser Game One has a noise cancelling mic which helps to reduce ambient noise even when it isn’t fully muted. This mic is flexible and easy to mute by simply raising the boom arm. When you raise this arm, the mic automatically mutes. This motion feels natural so you won’t have to think about it too much when you’re gaming.

5: Con: Unable to Mute Headphones Fully

Life happens and there will be moments where you need to take your focus away from your game. In this instance, it’s nice when you can simply mute your headset to hear what someone is saying to you. This keeps you from having to constantly take it off and put it back on, fighting with the wires each time, etc.

Though the Sennheiser Game One does have volume control on the right ear for on the go volume adjustment, it cannot be fully muted. This means that you may need to remove it to hear what’s going on around you in the real world or listen to someone that’s trying to talk to you.

4. Pro: Great Microphone

We already noted that the mic on this headset is noise cancelling and has an easy flip to mute feature. In addition, you can also adjust the mic as needed to get the best position for picking up your voice. This movement isn’t just for muting it so you can place it wherever it is the most useful. This also makes it more comfortable to use since you won’t have to reach to get it to pick up your voice. You also won’t necessarily need to notice it in your peripheral vision, since you can simply move it out of the way.

Microphone sensitivity is another key feature you need to be on the lookout for. This is a measurement of how much input (your voice) is needed for good output (what your teammates hear). In other words, you don’t want to have to scream in order for your team to hear you. Microphone sensitivity is measured in decibels (dBV) and you should aim for headsets between -46 and -35 dBV. The Sennheiser Game One has a microphone sensitivity of -38 dBV. It has a frequency response of 50 to 16,000 Hz.

3. Con: No EQ Settings

Equalizer (EQ) settings allow the user to customize their audio experience. This lets you change the volume of individual frequencies rather than the audio as a whole. This includes the treble, mid-range, and bass volumes. One of these may be more important to some users than others, such as those seeking bass heavy headsets.

Though the Sennheiser Game One has a volume adjustment as a whole, it does not have EQ settings. So, you cannot make any one part of the audio stand out more than the others. This doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to hear them; just that they will all be equal in volume.

2. Pro: Sound Quality

Despite not being able to adjust EQ settings, the Sennheiser Game One does have incredible sound quality. It has an open back ear cup design that allows for a very natural acoustic sound. This sound quality gives you an immersive gaming experience with realistic audio and a balanced bass extension. Sennheiser’s proprietary speaker system and transducer technology (50 ohm) specific to the Game One model provide fantastic sonic clarity and accuracy. This headset delivers high fidelity (hi-fi) audio to keep you immersed for hours on end.

Another important component of sound quality is the frequency response range. This is a measure of which frequencies from the game your headset picks up. Put simply, the bigger the range, the more you will be able to hear. The recommended minimum range is 20-20,000 Hz. The Sennheiser Game One has a frequency response range of 15-28,000 Hz, much larger than other headsets.

1. Con: Zero Noise Isolation

The open back design is usually more comfortable than closed back and gives you a more natural acoustic sound. With that being said, one downside to these open back designs is that they do not provide any noise cancellation in the headset (mic is not affected by this). This means that you will be able to hear sounds from outside of the headset. This may or may not be a major issue for you. Some people find this more distracting than others so it comes down to what you can tolerate.
